I agree with Mike, fldigi is a great alternative to HRD/DM780.   It's not
as pretty, but it's every bit as functional.  In addition, being familiar
with fldigi makes implementing the NBEMS suite easier since you're already
familiar with the main component (fldigi).   For those of you not familiar
with NBEMS - Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System, it is the alternative
to the Winlink 2000 system for emergency digital comms.  It utilizes a
series of add-on/stand-alone modules that allows you to create, transfer,
and read structured messages such as ICS 213 forms, text messages, forms,
etc via traditional digital modes such as PSK31 all via radio, no Internet
involvement at all.

Good tool to have in your toolbox.
