SOTA Activators from Oregon and elsewhere:

I'm signed up for a course at the University of Montana Outdoor Program which will certify participants as Trainers in the Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics program. I will be driving all the way from Blaine WA to attend the course.

Lots of folks think of Leave No Trace as just picking up trash. Of course it includes that, but the LNT concept is actually much more comprehensive: it's about learning how to behave ethically when we are outdoors.

The course includes an overnight trip on foot on Saturday and Sunday, October 22 - October 23. The fee is $50 per participant. So far, three participants have signed up. The course cannot go ahead unless a total of five people participate. Here are the details: https://lnt.org/events/trainer-course-university-montana-outdoor-program <https://deref-mail.com/mail/client/XQZ7rOQPx0U/dereferrer/?redirectUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fderef-mail.com%2Fmail%2Fclient%2FA8L9ElLta2A%2Fdereferrer%2F%3FredirectUrl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fderef-mail.com%252Fmail%252Fclient%252Fira-RPeCa74%252Fdereferrer%252F%253FredirectUrl%253Dhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Flnt.org%25252Fevents%25252Ftrainer-course-university-montana-outdoor-program> .

If you are not able to participate personally, perhaps you may know of somebody else who may be interested.

I've had a good discussion with the instructor, Elizabeth Fricke, Senior Assistant Director at the Outdoor Program. Her telephone number is (406) 243-5176. There is a participants' meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 19. If you would like to participate in the weekend trip, but cannot make it to that meeting, you might want to discuss it with Elizabeth. In any case, she'll be happy to discuss details about the course.

If one or more of you will be able to travel to Missoula and participate in the course, that would be great.

Meanwhile, I'm working on a Leave No Trace hang-tag for Outdoor Amateur Radio. It's a work in progress. Please read the current draft, attached, and offer suggestions for improvements. Thanks.

73,

Bruce Prior N7RR
