[HiDARG-MEMBERS] FYI: Baofeng/pofung radios $5.99 a pair.

We obtained this unit from the Christmas party a couple years ago. Used them at PPP, RAMROD and sled dog races and seem to work fine. They are a bear to program manually so get the RT systems or other equivalent to set up.

I've been using them several years now at Scout Camp as both ham and GMRS repeaters...besides regular simplex usage.... great for car trips, hunting, fishing, general camping... cheap enough to get broken or lost.

You can get empty battery packs to put in AA batteries or plug into external power and external antennas

I know a lot of local people have picked these various models up. Anyone want to give their opinions on this model and its effectiveness? Don't get me wrong...$5.99 for a paid, or $2.50 each is pretty much the equivalent of a one-time-use cost, just for the battery alone, but it would also be nice to have a radio that functions that second time and doesn't end on on the island of misfit toys the day after it's powered on.
