On Saturday 7/2/17 Brian KU7F and Max KF7MAX went over to Monument to test
viable sites for a cross band
or small repeater system in the area. A site that sits several hundreds of
feet above monument and has the
county rural fire district proved promising. It has good communication into
Mt Stephenson, with just the roof top
whip, and my 50 watt radio.
We then travelled over to John Day airport and swapped out the freq pair for
a new set.
As many of you know the JD repeater and Round Mt are on the same pair, and
have overlapping footprints.
Because they have different tones, and do not de-sense each other because of
their distance, they do
not interfere with each other. This is a common occurrence in many areas
that have lots of repeaters, like California, and the valley.
Since we are not in the valley or CA, as well as "perceived interference"
issues coming to light, the HiDARG repeater committee
decided it was best to move our pair at John Day up the band to ensure that
the Round Mt system would have a clear channel in the
event of any emergency needs in the area. (That is it's primary function.)
Be sure to re-program your radio settings for John Day to this new pair.
(See www.hidarg.orgs "Repeaters" page for more info.
After swapping out the duplexers and toggling the repeaters freq to the new
pair, initial testing showed something not working correctly with the
system.
After about two hours of testing, re-doing the program in the controller,
rechecking then retesting, we had the issue resolved and were finally on our
way.
Turned out to be a rather long day, travelled approx. 325miles. Left at
7:30am and got back around 9:30pm.
