Again thanks to all the folks that came up to help do the link install, and
swap out the old antenna for a new one.
We were unable to get the John Day link radio to reach John Day, it appeared
to transmit OK but they could not hear anything coming from us.
However John Day was able to get into the link radio on Mt-S just fine,
almost full quieting.
Until I test the link radio I will not know for sure why, it works great in
receive, and not transmit.
Other than that I think we had great success in swapping in the antenna.
Tested out to 1.3 / 1 swr and fairly flat.
The Mt S footprint and quality is miles above where it was before.
We pulled the OLD GP-6 apart and it was pretty much toast inside.
The caps that tie in the UHF 440 side were blown. most likely lightning..
The lower part VHF had some marginal connections..it was apparent that water
had migrated inside.
On the TUES net, I will be asking folks to try and check in using that
repeater either from home, and HT or mobile.
If not sure of the freg and TONE..it is on the website under our repeater
section.
If we do not hear you, then toggle to LongButte on the 94 or Pine on VHF or
UHF.
John KE7GYB was able to bring up the repeater with full quieting on his HT
on his porch.
I can get into it just fine with my HT in my front yard.
Steve at the John Day airport was able to get into it almost full quieting
on his mobile.
And marginal from his QTH, I could hear him, but he could not hear me.
Floyd KD7SLY in Mt Vernon, got in with his HT, very low audio, some noise,
but I was able to hear him.
Not sure if he heard me as he did not come back.
Folks in Fossil should have better luck getting in and being heard now.
Make sure if you are on an HT, you do not use a ducky, but a decent antenna
like a Diamond etc.
And do not get your body between the antenna and the repeater.
If anyone knows any hams in Goldendale, have them try and listen and check
in at the appropriate time.
