[HiDARG-MEMBERS] Test Prep

Rich - I also found the extra material extremely tough for me to wrap my head around - and I am also a security/network/systems engineer.

Certain topics just bounced off my brain.

What worked: schedule the exam, hit the material hard for a month (1-2 hours/night +/-), then take the exam, no matter how you feel about the material.

Also, if a study method is not working for you - switch to a different method.

Lewis,

Your info will help those wanting to upgrade to extra.  When I did it I found

it very frustrating even though I am a software and systems engineer.  I

had a hard time getting interested in retaining all the info just to pass a test.

I knew that I would use technical references if I every needed to do some of

the obscure stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

I heard a couple people mention testing for the General/Extra.

Max told me at one point 'studying the questions for the extra is just not enough' - and I agree.

However, I did find one resource that really worked for me: https://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/ .

Of course, YMMV, but this prep resource builds in e-learning components that thoroughly explain topics and methodologies referenced by a set of questions. In fact, they really dig into a topic - diagrams, reference material etc.

I used this resource in combination with books, test questions and ran the site on an old android tablet.

Worked for me.
