Doc ~
I have a radio that might work for you. It is a Yaesu 7900. The model is older, no GPS, and not a lot of the features of new rigs. This particular one I purchased about 18 months back for a project that got canceled. The radio is new, old stock, and has never been out of the box. It does have a detachable face plate and I have the original separation kit with it. If this will meet your needs, I’ll let it go for $125.00

Dave, I second Rich's suggestion. I bought a used Kenwood TM-V71a from another HiDARG member last year. I mounted the body in the back of the truck, and tucked the remote head just beneath the ashtray. It's pretty bulletproof... not a lot of bells and whistles... it just works.
Just keep looking and asking around... one will turn up.

Just FYI.
I am very happy with my Kenwood TM-V71a dual band, remote head,
monitor VHF and UHF at same time. Find a good used one.

Steve, glad to hear of your good experience. I thought of buying one at one time, but then looked at the e-ham reviews.

I decided there was enough with VHF Tx failure issues to look elsewhere.
Back to the OP question…..
In amateur radios I am most familiar with Yaesu and on the commercial side Motorola and Vertex. Vertex is now all Motorola so none new, not sure if there were older ones with a removable faceplate? None of those two brands of Part 90 gear have a VFO or any sort of on radio user programmability, need cables and software. I have a mobile Vertex VHF analog/DMR radio for work and a couple of matching HT’s, BUT that mobile does NOT have a detachable faceplate.
Looking through what Yaesu offers currently and has for last few years, the removable faceplate radios are few, currently a single analog dual band and two analog/digital offerings.
The east expensive currently new is actually the YAESU FTM-100DR at $275 and is a nice rig at that price point. Note that radio is dual band, BUT only has a single VFO if it is important to listen to both bands at same time.
What is floating around used from pre 2015 in the Yaesu line in dual bands with removable face plate I am unsure of.

I have heard about this problem with the Powerwerx DB750X but I have purchased and deployed eight of them in portable cross-band repeaters and have not had a problem with them. They are Part 90 approved and we have used them for both amateur radio and on public safety frequencies with good success. They are simple and straightforward from the front panel standpoint.

I would NOT put Powerwerx DB750X on my short list or any other list. Lots of VHF failures at or before three years. Common complaint.
Now that the requirements are for a seperation, that changes the game and possibly price point.

Yeah, I kind of figured that was going to be a deal breaker. I don't mind spending good money on a good radio, but I don't want to spend a bunch on something she will not use very much.

Hmm...The detachable faceplate. You might look for an IC-208h used.
Last time I saw one it was running about $150 on ebay. I'm running a
BTECH UV-50X3 in the truck that was $379 new. The Powerwerx DB-750X
also has a separation kit, runs about $350 new I think. Ray KG7AV
