What i need is soldering of the 1/2" copper pipe fittings...need a torch? with map gas?

Covid CYA statement:
We are still in Covid times, and will therefore have to be careful and follow state guidelines. Please be aware that if you come to the antenna build, you are responsible for your own PPE and personal space/hygiene. Bring hand sanitizer and any other personal protective equipment you think you will need to comply with state guidelines. SOP stuff folks. Obviously if you aren't feeling good or feel you are a high risk individual, please do yourself a favour and stay home. If you don't want to attend for whatever reason, but would like a ground plane antenna, please let us know and hopefully we can get one built for you and deliver it at a later date.
Materials:
Just between myself, Bill, and Jeff we have SO239 connectors and plenty of the welding wire and mast mounting material we'll need to build over 20 antennas, so If you don't have any materials it's not a problem. It would be nice for those that need materials to chip in on what they use, but it won't be more than 3 or 4 bucks. We will be able to easily build 2m, 1.25m, and 70cm ground plane antennas. I'm sure some other folks have connectors and wire they are bringing too, so there will be plenty of materials for those that don't have them. There was some talk of J-Pole and roll up slim jim antennas . I personally don't have any ladder lines for slim jims, or copper piping. Maybe someone can bring some extra ladder line they can part with. If you want a copper J-pole bring the necessary length of pipe, and we can help you get it cut and put together. Also bring any other project you want to discuss or help with building. There will be some experienced and knowledgeable Hams there and It'll be a great time to pick an Elmers brain in person!!!

YEP! That's all you need to build a ground plane antenna! Well, of course aside from little waterproofing and mast mounting, etc...... LOL
Tools:
There will be plenty of hand tools on site, but by all means bring your own tools, analysers, books, and knowledge. For instance, you may want to bring some of the following:
Hack Saw, drill and bits, vice, solder iron and solder, hole cutter, file-round and flat, metal brush, tape measure, square, pop rivet tool and rivets, marking pen, pliers, wrenches, screw driver, wire cutters, knife, pipe cutter, crimp tool for coax, shrink wrap, extension cord, etc, etc........ You see where this is going!! Bring what tools you have, and we can fill in the tools you don't.
Food/Drink/tables/chairs:
Tony is being kind enough to grab some bottled water and a couple snacks and I'm sure he wouldn't mind if some more snacks showed up. I'm bringing a table and some chairs so we should have plenty of space to build, but hey, bring yourself a chair!
I think that's about the gist of it without completely belabouring it. It'll be fun to hang out, meet some new Hams, and get some antennas built! I will see ya'll on the 7th @ 11am over at Tony's. Let the questions begin!! HI HI

I would suggest we call the date for the build Feb 7th with a start time of 12pm. That way people who work all week can join. Tony has offered up his huge HEATED garage so that's where it'll happen. We will have to be careful during these Covid times, so keep that in mind during the build. (had to be said).
Bill is going to put together a few designs and list the materials as "kits" so when you figure out which type of antenna will work best for your QTH, you can procure the materials on the list for that antenna. There will of course be some extra materials, etc, but for the most part we will need to bring our own. Designs on antennas to follow over the following days. If you have a good design for a 220 antenna email me a pic of it, the characteristics that make it a desirable antenna, and a complete list of materials to build it, and I'll put in on the list. In an effort to not clutter up the Hidarg mailing list email me @ johnbritt.baldwin at gmail.com with antenna designs, and when I get 3 or 4 of them, I'll send one more email to the group with antenna types and materials to build it.

As we talked about on the What's for Lunch Net today (12pm Fridays), I'm trying to get a list together of folks interested in building a 220 ground plane antenna. As many of you know, there are a handful of us that always monitor 223.5. There are some pretty good random ragchews as well. Also, there has been some interest in starting a once a month 220 net so now's the time to get that antenna built!! I also know that a lot of people have a tri-band HT and one of these inexpensive and highly functional ground-planes with a little stretch of coax and some elevation can turn that HT into a 220 base station....(I know because Bill helped me build one a few months ago, and that's what I did) Not to speak for Bill, but I'm pretty sure he still has one or two 220 loaner rigs available for use.
Bill N7RGB has offered up garage space, knowledge and knowhow. Once we get a list of folks, we'll get a list of materials and schedule the build. Hopefully we can do the build in the next week or two, so let us know soon.
