[HiDARG-MEMBERS] Wires-X on the fusion repeater.

Hello to the group!

There are a few strong opinions about Wires-X usage, and I think we need
to get some basic operating parameters set up so there's no confusion.
That way a couple people aren't dictating use for the rest of us.
Obviously, the best way to go about this is to have the HIDARG board come
up with parameters, if any, for the use of their digital repeater.

1st: Would anyone else like to host the internet for the Fusion repeater?

Due to issues about usage, I am going to disconnect my node from the
repeater on March 31st. If anyone else would like to host the connection
to the repeater, I would say thank you, and help you get it set up.. My
opinion is that the repeater should be open to anyone and to any room when
not already in use. There is a 25min time out timer already set up. This
should be a short enough time frame for people to wait their turn without
switching the room back during use. After all, you can move off freq, or
turn your volume down for a few min if you don't like what you're hearing.
The repeater sits idle 99% of the time, so why not switch rooms and listen
to some traffic every now and again? The reason I connected to the fusion
repeater was to have it used. If it's just going to sit idle all the time
and not get used, why even have it connected?

2nd: What would be the goals of use for the repeater?

Is the repeater expected to sit in the Central-Oregon room 100% of the
time, or can we freely change rooms when the repeater isn't in use? Based
on the monitoring I do, the repeater sits idle 99% of the time and I've
noticed more often than not when someone switches rooms (especially during
the day), others quickly turn it back, even though the repeater has been
quiet for many hours. So basically others are dictating use by switching
rooms back to Central-Oregon, even though someone is clearly using it to
access another room. This goes against the original idea of "don't change
rooms while the repeater is in use". We need clarification here.

With that said, I will go ahead and disconnect my node from the repeater
on the 31st of March. I will give up the Central-Oregon room name so that
it can be used by the club when, or if it gets re-connected. From there,
the HIDARG board can decide how to proceed with parameters of use on their
digital repeater and I can go back to enjoying Wires-X.

73 to all,
John KJ7OIV
